Our Vision in Action

Our core values, intention, collaboration, and responsibility, reflect our belief that students - actually all people - are most successful when they have autonomy and responsibility over their reality.

Every action begins and ends with the student's goal. This intentional action extends to all curriculum. Our students learn the academic and social emotional skills needed to succeed economically in the 21st Century.

The leading cause of global human rights abuses are due to climate change. Our students will learn how to build, think, act, speak, and fight to overcome these abuses.

EVERY STUDENT:

  • MEETS REGULARLY WITH AN ADVISOR TO SET ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT GOALS

  • HAS MANDATED 1:1 CONFERENCES WITH EVERY TEACHER, IN EVERY CLASS

  • IS GUARANTEED THE OPPORTUNITY TO WORK WITH A VARIETY OF STUDENTS

  • Meets with a teacher in small group reading in every class

  • Gains social and economic capital by gaining work skills in our CTE program and internships

  • participates in a 4-year writing program to prepare students for college (writing is seen by colleges as the #1 skill lacking in students)

All of this work is anchored in the principle of equity. New York City states that "the right to a free public school education is a basic 'student right' guaranteed to all children." On that foundation, we maintain a policy of open enrollment and do not reject students from UAGC based on past performance, which is the policy of many New York City public schools. Instead, we work to support all students who wish to attend our school.
